Space will be a free new gallery that brings together remarkable objects from the first space age and the future of space exploration. It will invite visitors to discover inspiring stories of exploration while offering a new perspective on significant space objects.

In a world first, two human-flown spacecraft will be displayed alongside one another. Visitors will be able to examine the differences between the Apollo 10 which orbited the Moon in 1969 and the Soyuz capsule which travelled to the International Space Station in 2015. A three-billion-year-old piece of the Moon will be on display alongside the radio headset worn by Neil Armstrong when communicating with Mission Control.

New technologies from the rapidly expanding UK space sector will also be displayed for the first time. Visitors will be able to see new Magdrive propulsion systems that allow small satellite to easily manoeuvre while in orbit; a prototype Space Forge heat shield which would protect materials manufactured in orbit as they are transported to Earth; and a Spire LEMUR2 nanosatellite used to provide weather information to climate scientists.
