Tesco has spent the bank holiday weekend welcoming customers to its newest Express store in central London.
The retailer’s new St Paul’s London Express opened on Friday afternoon to a crowd of excited shoppers.
The store, located on Paternoster Square near St Paul’s Cathedral, features an in-store bakery, Costa coffee, ATM and InPost locker service and will be open from 7am to 11pm throughout the week to serve commuters, tourists and the local community living nearby.
Store Manager Hanan Ali, who has over 12 years of experience managing stores for Tesco, said “Our whole team is excited to launch this new store in such a great location, we are all buzzing with excitement.”
Meanwhile in north London, local residents in Finchley have been shopping at Tesco’s new Regents Park Road express branch.
This new site, located at 206 Regents Park Road, opened its doors for the first time on Thursday the 21st of August and colleagues are keen to build a connection with the local community.
Store Manager Hemangi Bhatt said: “I am excited to be part of a team opening a new store within the business. I am particularly excited to be working in a neighbourhood store and am looking forward to building relationships with customers and serving the local community a little better every day. There are 11 colleagues working in the store, 7 of which are newly employed by Tesco so I am looking forward to working with them to develop their careers in the business as well.”
Schools, charities and community groups local to the two new stores are also being invited to apply for community funding through Stronger Starts, Tesco’s blue token voting scheme which sees three local projects voted on by customers in store every three months, with first place awarded up to £1,500, second place up to £1,000 and third place up to £500.
The new stores will also participate in the Community Food Connection scheme, which redistributes surplus food to charities and community volunteers from every Tesco store at
the end of each day. Since its launch in 2015, the scheme has donated more than 300 million meals to charities across the UK in partnership with FareShare and Olio.
