Trevor Adams from East London is among 26 exceptional individuals to be honoured with the esteemed British Citizen Award (BCA) at the Palace of Westminster. This recognition celebrates their outstanding contributions to society.

The Medal Presentation, set for Thursday 25th July 2024, will see Trevor receive the coveted BCA Medal of Honour for Services to the Community (BCAc). Recipients are entitled to use the post-nominals commemorating their achievements.

Trevor has volunteered for the Police Cadets and the Metropolitan Police in the London Borough of Newham for over ten years, serving to help local young people in a deprived inner-city location. Trevor’s commitment has resulted in the growth of the Volunteer Police Cadets which now has over 500 cadets enrolled on the programme, the largest cadet group not only in London, but the whole of the UK.

The volunteer police cadets are groups of young people who come together with police officers to learn about policing new skills helping build confidence, teamwork, and leadership abilities. These young people go on to take part in policing operations and crime prevention initiatives and become community champions. Trevor’s is a staggering achievement given the level of youth crime peer pressure and gang activity in Newham.

Trevor also volunteers as the Honourable Chair of the local Ward Panel Meetings where groups of residents, businesses and partners including Councillors question the local police Safer Neighbourhood team, East Ham South to set local ward priorities. During the last 10 years, Trevor has helped hundreds of young people and been a constant with his voluntary community engagement and a great asset for the volunteer police cadets.

Stephanie Wood from BCA Partner One Stop commented, “This year’s medalists exemplify the incredible support within our communities, especially during challenging times. We’re honoured to partner with the BCA and play a part in recognising these exceptional individuals.”

The presentation, hosted by TV presenter Matt Allwright, will be attended by BCA Patrons Dame Mary Perkins, Founder of Specsavers, and The Rt Hon Lord Dholakia. Following the ceremony, medalists will enjoy an Open Top Lap of Honour tour and a certificate presentation at another distinguished Westminster venue.
