Visitors from Ghana and the Dominican Republic gain insight into innovative teaching practices during British Council led school visit.

Nightingale Primary School in Bloomfield Road, Woolwich, proudly hosted an international delegation from Ghana and the Dominican Republic on 22nd May, as part of a British Council initiative aimed at fostering global educational exchange.

The delegation, which included representatives from the Ministry of Education, visited the school to explore the integration of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) into the UK primary curriculum. The delegation were also particularly interested in teacher training in the UK, the use of technology in education, and gaining a better understanding of UK practices for identifying and supporting students with special educational needs.

The visit coincides with the Education World Forum – the world’s largest gathering of education and skills ministers. As part of their UK tour, the delegates sought to experience firsthand how British schools are making use of progressive educational strategies.

A highlight of the visit was Nightingale Primary’s use of IXL – a personalised online learning platform that enhances student engagement in maths, language, arts, and beyond. Delegates observed how the platform supports individual learning pathways and strengthens pupils’ mathematical and technological understanding through interactive digital tools.

Omar Jennings, Headteacher at Nightingale Primary, said: “We were thrilled to welcome the delegates and share our unique approach to embedding maths and technology across our curriculum – from the early years to key stage 2 – alongside our innovative teacher development and purposeful digital integration.”
