Enable, in partnership with Wandsworth Council is pleased to announce that nominations are now open for the 2022 Active Wandsworth Awards.

Winners will be awarded at the annual ceremony taking place on 3rd March hosted by reporter, journalist and Sky Sports TV presenter Emma Paton at The Civic Suite, Wandsworth.

The Active Wandsworth Awards, exist to recognise and reward the Wandsworth community for their talent, commitment and dedication in inspiring others to get active and stay active and have been doing so for 25 years. The Awards have recognised hundreds of amazing local people in that time and have crowned some exceptional athletes including England rugby star Kyle Sinckler and Olympic athletes Katie Snowden and Steph Davis.

These awards celebrate and acknowledge the talented local sports people, coaches, volunteers, schools, organisations and clubs for their dedication and personal commitment to helping local people achieve their goals regardless of age, ability or financial situation.

The importance of sport & physical activity to both our physical and mental health is an ever-growing topic of interest and significance, even more so against the lasting effect of the recent pandemic and lockdowns. Despite such a challenging backdrop, there are many dedicated people working in our borough every day who make a huge difference across our whole community.

Awards host, Emma Paton says, “These awards are important because they recognise local people and organisations for their selfless dedication and commitment as well as some hugely significant achievements. It was fantastic to meet the amazing athletes and young people last year and I am really looking forward to presenting the Awards in their 25th year and learning more about the nominees of 2022.”

Does this sound like someone you know? Have you been inspired by them to become more active, or has someone removed barriers to make physical activity a reality for you? Maybe you know someone who simply makes grassroots sport happen or who has been incredibly successful in their own sport in 2022?

Some of the 10 categories recognise how an individual, organisation or project has increased opportunities for disabled people in Wandsworth to participate in sport or physical activity.

Councillor Judi Gasser, Cabinet Member for the environment says, “It’s so important for people’s physical and mental health that they have opportunities to enjoy sports. We are really grateful to all our teams, coaches, clubs and others who do so much to keep the people of Wandsworth fit and active. We want to highlight them and the work they do, so please do send your nominations in.”
