Three employees that work for a leading housebuilder in Norfolk have advanced in their careers after receiving rewarding promotions across different sectors of the trade.

Norwich-based Barratt and David Wilson Homes Anglia – which opened its first regional office earlier this year – has awarded the staff members with new roles to help oversee the success of the newly-expanded business.

Sian Tinkler (35), who lives in Norwich but is originally from Lowestoft, was promoted from Senior Quantity Surveyor to Commercial Manager.

Her new role involves a high level of communication with the wider commercial team, ensuring that staff are comfortable and meeting the deadlines for the tasks they have been set, as well as resolving and preventing any issues that may arise across ongoing projects.

Sian said: “I feel really valued for all the hard work and effort that I have put into the commercial team and wider business since I joined a year ago. I am really grateful for the opportunity, and hope that I can guide more deserving individuals through the company as I progress.

“I think it’s really important and commendable that Barratt and David Wilson Homes promotes women in construction. Since I first started in the industry it has changed a lot, and I think it’s down to responsible businesses like this which have broken the mould.”

The second Barratt and David Wilson Homes employee to have been promoted is 23-year-old Declan Jarrold, who has recently transitioned from Trainee Quantity Surveyor to Assistant Quantity Surveyor.

An average day in the new role for Declan involves helping to oversee costs, material quantities and project timelines, as well as liaising with subcontractors and site managers to identify and resolve issues.

Declan said: “It feels great to have been promoted. I enjoy working within a strong commercial team and learning new skills regularly.

“Barratt and David Wilson Homes is keen on personal development and really looks after its staff. The company reward hard work, so it is great to be recognised when you put in extra work.”

The final employee to have been promoted is Gemma Custance (28) from Cambridge, who has recently taken the step up from Assistant Land Buyer to Land Buyer.

Gemma’s new role requires her to take on much more responsibility in the land buying process, from identification of the site, all the way through to the exchange and competition process.

She said: “I feel as though all my hard work has paid off. I feel really happy and excited for the next step in my career.

“Every day is different; every site brings a different hurdle to overcome. I enjoy the variety and being able to work with the other teams to reach a common goal.”

Simon Wood, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Anglia, said: “We are delighted to award Sian, Declan and Gemma with promotions following their excellent achievements.

“Since we first launched as a new division just over a year ago, the team at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Anglia has gone from strength to strength, and I feel extremely proud to have such a fantastic team of individuals working for the company.

“We are always on the lookout for fresh talent, and as a business, we offer a brilliant route to success with many career opportunities available for all. I’d like to encourage anyone interested to find out more about what roles could be available for them.”
