Olympic medallists Ben Proud and Dan Goodfellow will welcome visitors to their training ground this Sunday as the London Aquatics Centre throws open its doors for a free community celebration.
The event marks a successful first year under Everyone Active’s management that has seen one million people stream through its doors.
The iconic Olympic venue will host a day of activities on Sunday 9 March, giving the public free access to the same world-class facilities where Britain’s swimming elite prepare for international glory.
Since opening to the public in 2014, the centre has proudly served as both an elite training facility and a community leisure destination.
Chris Wells, Everyone Active Contract Manager, said: “We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished in our first year managing the London Aquatics Centre.
“Reaching one million visitors is a remarkable achievement, and we want to give back to the community that has supported us. This open day is the perfect opportunity for everyone to experience our world-class facilities free of charge, especially if you’ve never visited before.
“Whether you’re a seasoned swimmer or just curious about what we offer, we invite you to come and see why this Olympic venue continues to be a special place for people of all ages and abilities.”
The free event, running from 9am to 5pm, offers free access to the venue’s 50-metre Olympic pools and specialised dive pool.
Visitors can try their hand at activities including scuba diving, children’s diving sessions, artistic swimming, and tackle “Atlantis” – one of the UK’s largest pool inflatable obstacle courses.
Olympic stars Proud and Goodfellow won’t just be making appearances – they’ll be actively meeting visitors and joining in various activities and sessions throughout the day, offering a chance for the public to interact with elite athletes in the very facility where they train.
Everyone Active has transformed the facility since taking over management in partnership with the London Legacy Development Corporation last March, completing a comprehensive gym refurbishment within weeks and adding dedicated spin and exercise studios.
The centre has also enhanced accessibility with a state-of-the-art PoolPod 3.0 in the main pool – a submersible lift ensuring swimming remains accessible to all community members.
Additional activities throughout the day include prenatal aqua workouts, virtual aqua aerobics through Hydrohex, Zumba classes, Body Balance sessions and yoga.
Booking is recommended but not essential for the open day. Activities will be available on a first-come first-served basis.
The London Aquatics Centre is located at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and is easily accessible via public transport.
