LOCAL East End charity, The Good Shepherd Mission provides weekly food parcel donations to those in need in the community.

Based in Bethnal Green, the Mission which has a Christian faith focus provides support to people of all backgrounds. With the ever increasing cost of food and the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, many people have been impacted.

Working in the locality, Specsavers Bethnal Green and Specsavers Whitechapel store partners, Neeraj Tripathi and Mahul Patel have witnessed first hand the queues outside local foodbanks including The Good Shepherd Mission.

Retail director Neeraj said: ‘It was for this reason that we decided to enlist the support of both of our store teams and customers and set up the regular donations of food and essential items to the charity.

‘Mahul and I decided to double the contributions made based on customer feedback and the reviews we receive after a sight or hearing test. So far, we have donated in excess of £400 worth of essential day-to-day items and supplies. We really appreciate every single comment and review our customers leave following their visit to our store.’

Sally Dixon, Good Shepherd Mission Treasurer says: ‘We really appreciate the support we have received from the teams at Specsavers Bethnal Green and Whitechapel. As a charity we rely on donations to help those vulnerable people in the community.

‘During the last few years, we have witnessed a huge increase in people coming to our foodbank from all backgrounds. So, we’re delighted to receive the food parcels from Neeraj and Mahul. These are providing individuals and families with key essentials.’

In-store at Specsavers Bethnal Green and Whitechapel, there are posters raising awareness of this initiative. If you would like to support The Good Shepherd Mission charity, then do leave a comment following your store visit for a sight or hearing test, contact lens or glasses fitting or anything else.

Both directors are keen to provide support to their local communities and to help those in need. They have now developed an ongoing partnership with The Good Shepherd Mission and the team of volunteers who run it.
