On Friday 9 September at 18:45 London Transport Museum is hosting a ‘street party’ style Museum Late to celebrate the opening of the Elizabeth line, the capital’s new railway. Guests can take a seat around a giant street party table and indulge their nostalgia with games and creative activities each inspired by a different decade of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, the line’s royal namesake. Think hopscotch and Snakes and Ladders to wristband making, all led by quirky costumed historical characters from whichever decade you find yourself in.
A line-up of lively short talks will explore the secrets of the Elizabeth line, from its pre-war origins to how the Museum has been documenting its journey for future museum visitors. In a fun pub-style quiz guests can also test their knowledge of London’s latest railway line and build their very own railway station in a crafty and creative challenge.
Elizabeth line-inspired purple cocktails will be served at the bar and the Museum’s galleries and exhibitions can be explored after dark. ‘Drive’ an Elizabeth line train in the Future Engineers gallery, climb aboard historic buses, Tube trains and trams from days gone by and discover the secrets of London’s disused Underground stations in the award-winning Hidden London exhibition in the Global Gallery.
