South London community initiative Peaceballers is looking for talented footballers aged 13–18 to take part in a powerful new short film and social media campaign tackling air pollution across Southwark and Lambeth.
Set to be filmed on 1st September at 1pm in Southwark Park, the campaign match will highlight how toxic air affects young athletes—and how football can serve as a platform for environmental action.

Air pollution in Southwark and Lambeth remains dangerously high, disproportionately affecting young people—especially in Black and ethnic minority communities. The campaign aims to give youth players a chance to stand up for their health, their community, and their future.
“Live and Breathe the Beautiful Game” is the title of the short film, which creatively links the beauty of football to the fight for clean air. It follows a player navigating the choice between playing it safe or expressing bold, creative flair—mirroring the larger challenge of protecting freedom and identity in an increasingly polluted and mechanised world.
By stepping onto the pitch, players will not only showcase their skills but also become part of a movement demanding clean, breathable air for all.
“This campaign is about turning passion into action. Young footballers have influence and energy—this is their chance to use it for something bigger than the game,” said Zion Zachary, director of Peaceballers.
Through the film and social media outreach, Peaceballers hopes to engage a wide youth audience and urge local and national leaders to take stronger action on air pollution. Participating players will also benefit from increased exposure on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, helping them raise their profiles while raising awareness.
“We’re looking for passionate footballers to step onto the pitch and be part of Live and Breathe the Beautiful Game — a powerful short film that blends the beauty of football with a vital environmental cause. This is your chance to showcase your skills in a cinematic story that will inspire fans and spark change, while raising your profile across social media and the football community. By joining us, you won’t just be playing the game — you’ll be making a statement, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with a movement that’s fighting to protect both the soul of football and the world we all share. Your talent, your flair, and your passion could be the spark that ignites millions,” continued Zachary.
Southwark schools are also invited to take part in a series of special screenings and Q&As during September, sparking wider conversations about environmental justice and youth action.
In 2024, a previous Peaceballers campaign celebrating local football talent reached over 90,000 views across social media.
This year’s football activation is part of Live + Breathe, a wider summer campaign using art, sport, and culture to fight air pollution in South London. The initiative, founded by musician and activist Love Ssega, became a Community Interest Company in 2023 and continues to amplify underrepresented voices in the climate conversation.
