Following a jam packed evening at Jumbi Peckham on 27th November 2024, On This Land Events, a grassroots, volunteer run collective working to raise money for communities directly affected by the conflict in Palestine, has announced it has raised more than £38,000 for the Gaza Sunbirds, and that all donations are currently being quadrupled, meaning that those who donate will be donating 4x the amount. The fundraiser closes next Wednesday, on 29th January 2025, with the collective aiming to hit £40,000 before it closes.
The event in November featured an auction, a live performance from South London psychedelic duo, Ghubara, and DJ sets from Daniele Mizar and Oscar Abdullah, as well as a speech from Gaza Sunbirds co-founder, Karim Ali.
The Gaza Sunbirds are a Palestinian para-cycling team which have been distributing essential supplies to the Gazan community over the last fifteen months including shelter, food, essentials, water, sanitary products, toilets and more. The money raised by On This Land Events will go towards their continued aid missions including their latest Pizza Parties – pizza making workshops bringing joy to thousands of children in the strip.
Roxana Khan Williams, founder of On This Land Events, said, “We have been floored by the support for our event, and the incredible amount of money we raised on the day, and well after. We are all volunteers who have full time jobs and busy lives, so being able to raise such a phenomenal amount for such an important cause has been incredible.
