Penguin Books has today launched the Nothing Like a Book weekender as part of its ongoing 90th birthday celebrations. The event will take place at London’s iconic Truman Brewery on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th July. This is a free walk-in event, with tickets for the featured talks and workshops available via ballot only*. Additional regional activations will run throughout the summer in specially selected independent book shops** across the UK.
The Nothing Like a Book weekender will allow the public to truly tap into everything books have to offer, and beyond. Whether it be finding comfort, challenging the way you think, or getting your heart racing, the Nothing Like a Book weekender is set to be a celebration of everything a book can spark.
The event will be split into two distinctive spaces to bring books, and the weekend, to life. The always on Discovery Room will feature experiential installations themed around what books do best: soothe, empower, and thrill. An exciting roster of speakers are set to appear in the Curiosity Studio, including:
Jacqueline Wilson, discussing the power of books from your childhood and the stories that stay with us
Jordan Stephens, David Larbi and Ben Hurst exploring how young people, especially boys, navigate the opportunities and complexities of both the digital and real-world life
Munroe Bergdorf and Chante Joseph, on why knowledge is just the first chapter in driving social change
Bea Fitzgerald and Nadia El Fassi, in a playful and fun exploration of the popular sub-genre of romantasy
With support from the Nothing Like a Book partners MOTH Drinks and Crocs, there will be surprises throughout the weekend, including free giveaways.
Rebecca Sinclair, Chief Brand Officer at Penguin Books said: “We are delighted to launch the Nothing Like a Book weekender as part of our 90th birthday celebrations. At Penguin, we believe in the power of books. Some offer us the chance to escape, while others allow us to discover new perspectives and ideas or to learn a new skill. Just as importantly, they connect us with one another in meaningful ways. I am excited to see Nothing Like a Book bring that to life. Our mission is ‘to publish books for everyone’ and there is something for everyone featured across the weekend.”
