Belvedere Infant and Junior School in Bexley was pleased to welcome children’s author Olly Pike recently.

Olly is the Director of Pop’n’Olly, a leading LGBT+ educational resource which helps to combat prejudice. Olly’s books are used across both schools to teach about equality and diversity, including his most recent book Have You Ever Seen a ‘Normal’?

In three assemblies for different year groups, Olly spoke with the children about his experience of growing up and feeling different. He also talked about how everyone is different and the importance of celebrating the fact that we are all unique.

Olly shared his career journey as a dancer, actor, YouTuber, illustrator and now writer of children’s books. Pupils really enjoyed having the chance to ask him questions and hear about how he was inspired to create his characters and stories.

The school also held a book signing for children and their families after school.

Miss Lynch, Executive Head Teacher at Belvedere Infant and Junior School, said:

“We are very grateful to Olly for visiting us and sharing his own experiences growing up and the importance of celebrating differences.

“Embracing diversity is of course highly important to us at Belvedere Infant and Junior School. This was a wonderful way to demonstrate our commitment to diversity and inclusivity to our pupils and our wider community.”
