The St Dunstan’s community embraced a new way of learning on Monday 23 March as the College went remote amid the Coronavirus crisis.
Staff delivered their lessons virtually using Firefly and Microsoft Teams as pupils followed closely at home.
Speaking about the day, Deputy Head Pastoral, Mrs McLellan, said the leadership team were ‘delighted at some of the best practice’ they had seen during the day.
‘In the Senior School, we had our first virtual assembly hosted by Mr Holmes on the theme of scholarship,’ Mrs McLellan added. ‘In the Junior School pupils experienced their first interactive teaching sessions, combining Firefly and Microsoft Teams.’
The Junior School’s Deputy Head Academic, Mr Alex Murphy, also praised the response to the first day learning remotely.
‘Our first day embarking on our journey into the remote learning environment has been one full of excitement, anticipation and challenges,’ he explained. ‘Despite some technical issues early on, staff, pupils and parents persevered through to access the huge plethora of content available for the pupils to access.
‘Parents have told me about their children excitedly making playdough, building 3D shapes out of paper and enjoying story time from the many books available on their year group page. The interactive possibilities are endless and as we adapt to this new form of learning, our offering will continue to evolve and develop.
‘The response so far has been incredibly positive and one that the St Dunstan’s Junior School community are excited about – we are proud of you all for embracing it so eagerly.’
