Red Roses rugby star Ella Wyrwas, made an emotional return to Saracens Amateur RFC Ltd this week, the club where her remarkable sporting journey began. The visit offered her a chance to reconnect with the place that ignited her passion for the women’s game, which now serves as a platform for her to inspire the next generation of rugby talent.
As excitement builds for the Women’s Rugby World Club, which will be hosted in England in 2025, the England squad are eager to see the tournament’s momentum spark a surge of interest in women’s rugby at all levels, particularly among young girls.
Having recently secured two significant wins over World Champions New Zealand, the Red Roses are aiming for World Cup glory, but the tournament offers much more than just a chance to lift the trophy.
For Ella, the Women’s Rugby World Cup is more than just a competition, it’s a chance to push women’s rugby into the spotlight and encourage greater support and visibility for female athletes.
Speaking on the community club visit, Ella said: “I started playing rugby for Saracens Amateurs at five-years-old; it’s a club that has given so much to me and I wouldn’t be here without them. When I first picked up a ball, I didn’t know the journey ahead to now. We as Red Roses want young girls to give rugby a go and be inspired by what we are trying to achieve as a group at next year’s tournament. There is so much young female talent out there and it’s clubs like Saracens Amateurs that help nurture and develop it.”
