Quintain Living – the award-winning management company overseeing the rental of more than 3,650 apartments in Wembley Park – is showcasing the value of botanical living at its newest building, Repton Gardens.
The focus of the interior design is to bring the outside inside, from the choice of colours and materials for the décor and furnishings to the abundance of plants that fill the building. It is part of a wider trial in which Quintain Living is working with Ekkist – a specialist built environment wellbeing consultancy – to roll out the new Healthy Homes Checklist across 1,000 of its apartments in Wembley Park. The checklist examines every aspect of home design to measure properties’ health credentials and flag up areas for improvement in design and construction.
According to a 2022 study by the University of Birmingham and the Royal Horticultural Society, potted plants “make a significant contribution to reducing air pollution in homes”. This knowledge is put into practice at Repton Gardens, where indoor planting is used to enhance air quality and thus contribute to residents’ wellbeing.
At Repton Gardens, greenery abounds both indoors and out, from the indoor planting to the large podium garden that sits at the heart of the development. The central garden is home to lawned areas, with mounded planting for larger trees, to encourage wildlife and biodiversity. For happy days spent enjoying the outdoors, there are two playparks and four covered outdoor kitchens with BBQs and seating.
The club lounge at Repton Gardens opens directly onto the central garden, with a connecting corridor enabling residents using the ten work-from-home cubicles to step outside for a breath of fresh air throughout the day. Residents using the fully equipped gym also have a full view of the gardens while they work out, thanks to the gym’s floor-to-ceiling windows and two mirror walls.
Within individual apartments at Repton Gardens, the botanical living concept is reflected not just in the presence of plants but in the décor and furnishings. The building is home to 396 apartments available for rent through Quintain Living, with homes designed for families and sharers, ranging in size from studios to four bedrooms.
Respect for nature was at the heart of the approach to furnishing the homes, with John Lewis & Partners using biomethane vans for deliveries and curating a special collection of their most sustainable products, including items made from recycled materials and products manufactured in zero carbon footprint factories. This focus meant that 56% of all furniture lines are sustainable including every single sofa, armchair, mattress, barstool, dining bench and artwork in the Repton Gardens apartments.
