Road signs updated following resident feedback on west and east Greenwich neighbourhood management scheme

0

The Royal Borough of Greenwich has updated road signs for the west and east Greenwich neighbourhood management scheme to provide greater clarity for residents, businesses, and visitors.
Following resident feedback, the new signage includes improved directional warnings and clearer indications of the weekday (7am to 10am and 3pm to 7pm) restrictions.

These improvements follow comments received during the ongoing 18-month trial. The key changes include:

Mandatory signs (see image below ‘N1’ Sign): All existing mandatory signs have been updated, and the ‘N1’ scheme reference has been added to show which permit holders are permitted to travel through the restricted areas. “N1” permit holders are authorised to drive through the intervention points during the restricted hours without receiving a PCN
Removal of the blue badge symbol: To avoid confusion – because not all blue badge holders are exempt from the scheme – the blue badge symbol has been removed from signs. Blue badge holders who live in the borough, can apply for an exemption as well as other individuals and organisations that meet specific criteria.
Advanced warning signs (see below photo): To provide clearer guidance, advanced warning camera signs, along with the directional symbol and the ‘No Motor Vehicle’ symbol, are now located on the approach to each restriction point, rather than solely on boundary roads.
Councillor Averil Lekau, Cabinet Member for Climate Action, Sustainability and Transport said: “These changes demonstrate how we are listening to residents and acting on the feedback they provide us to help make these important improvements. We want to make it cleaner, greener and safer to move around the borough and so by improving the signage, we are helping everyone navigate the area safely and confidently.

“Safeguarding the health and wellbeing of our residents is extremely important, which is why we are taking these necessary steps to address air pollution, traffic congestion, and road safety concerns. Please continue to share your feedback to help us shape and improve the scheme.”

Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) previously issued under the scheme remain valid, as the scheme was compliant with regulations. These signage improvements are being implemented to improve the scheme’s clarity.

The scheme operates with part-time, weekday camera enforcement during the hours of 7am to 10am and 3pm to 7pm. Existing exemptions issued for this scheme remain valid and are now recognised as “N1″ exemptions. ”
