More than 250 new homes could be bought by the council for local people as part of a multi-million pound investment into Housing Our Greenwich.

Subject to sign off by Cabinet on 11 June, the council plans to purchase the properties and let them at social rent to people currently waiting on the housing register.

The homes are located on three new privately built developments across the borough: Royal Arsenal, Kidbrooke Village and Greenwich Millennium Village in Greenwich Peninsula.

These proposals follow a decision in February 2022 to expand the Greenwich Builds council home-creation programme with a second phase, which increased the overall target of the programme from 750 to 1,000 homes, agreeing an additional budget envelope of £397.32m to achieve this.

A council spokesperson said: “If approved, this decision will enable the council to make further progress in addressing housing needs in the borough by allowing over 250 families and individuals to move into a stable, affordable and safe home.”

Approval of the proposals align with the priorities set out in the 2021-2026 Housing and Homelessness Strategy, such as ensuring the supply of high-quality homes, providing safe and sustainable homes, and supporting the development of resilient and vibrant communities and neighbourhoods.
