Parks and green spaces in Royal Greenwich have scooped three awards at this year’s London in Bloom.

London in Bloom recognises local authorities, parks, friends of parks, community groups, and schools across the capital for making areas greener, cleaner and safer.

A council spokesperson said: “We are committed to making our neighbourhoods vibrant and attractive and this is a great reflection of the effort we have put in to ensure that. To see the recognition extended to our incredibly dedicated Friends of Parks and community organisations makes us feel proud that we are on this journey together as a whole borough.

“A big thank you and congratulations to all who contribute towards maintaining our parks and outdoor spaces to award-winning standards!”

This year, parks and outdoor spaces in Royal Greenwich were represented across three separate categories:

Royal Borough of Greenwich, Gold in Borough category
Royal Borough of Greenwich, Gold and Winner Award in Cemetery/Crematoriums category
Royal Borough of Greenwich for Well Hall Pleasaunce, Gold in Large Park category
Friends of Parks were also recognised on the evening with Friends of Plumstead Gardens and The Friends of Tarn winning an It’s Your Neighbourhood Award.

Eltham Crematorium, that is governed by a joint committee from Bexley, Greenwich and Dartford councils, also received The Best in Capital Campaign out of all the entries. It is important that we provide clean, welcoming and respectful places for friends and family to visit those who have passed away, and those who are laid to rest in our borough are done so with dignity.

Other community groups such as Charlton Community Gardens, Charlton House Garden Volunteers, Heathwood Gardens Community Hub and Christchurch School Community Garden also won awards for the incredible work they do for green spaces.

Royal Greenwich is home to over 100 parks and outdoor spaces, all with different attractions to offer. Find a full list of parks and open spaces across Royal Greenwich at royalgreenwich.gov.uk/parks.
