The Royal Borough of Greenwich is delighted to have once again retained all 13 of its coveted Green Flag awards. The Green Flag is an international award managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy which recognises parks with high environmental and maintenance standards, as well as well-kept and accessible facilities. Royal Greenwich parks have been awarded Green Flags since 2008, marking 15 years of recognition.
These awards highlight the importance of local green spaces to residents and visitors, as well as the hard work that council staff put into keep our parks clean and green throughout the year.
Twinkle Park and Charlotte Turner Gardens have also earned Green Flag Community awards, so congratulations to the Friends groups who have worked so hard to keep them looking so beautiful.
Councillor Anthony Okereke, Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich said: “Royal Greenwich is home to over 100 incredible parks and green spaces, so it’s incredible to see some of them being honoured with the recognition of the Green Flag Awards.
“I am thankful to all our parks staff and community groups for their hard work to consistently maintain these high standards. These honours are a testament to the dedication they have towards ensuring our parks are clean and safe for all.”
Councillor Adel Khaireh, Cabinet Member for Equality, Culture and Communities said: “As part our aim to make our borough cleaner and greener, we’re committed to delivering more Green Flag sites so that residents and visitors can enjoy exercising, relaxing and spending time with friends and family in our outstanding parks.
“We are particularly proud about having parks and green spaces recognised across the borough and are excited to grow our list of award-winning parks in the future.”
