The RSPCA is appealing for help to find out what happened to a dog who was dumped dead in west London.
A walker made the upsetting discovery in Albert Road, West Kilburn, on Thursday morning (28 March) and reported it to the RSPCA.
Animal Rescue Officer (ARO) Philip Heyes went out to collect the dog’s body.
He said: “This poor young male dog was lying on his side on top of a piece of brown carpet in a black metal dog crate, partially covered with a grey blanket.
“The crate had been dumped in some bushes against a fence beside the footpath, off Albert Road.
“The dog – a black and tan, short-haired German Shepherd cross type – was shockingly skinny; you could see all of his ribs and his hip bones. He was barely more than fur, skin and bones. It was a shocking and pitiful sight and raises concerns that he had been neglected and poorly kept for some time before his death.”
The dog – who was not microchipped – was taken to the RSPCA’s Finsbury Park Animal Hospital.
“We’re now appealing to the public to help us as we investigate what has happened to this poor dog,” ARO Heyes added.
“Every act of kindness makes a difference and this includes the public calling us with information to help our investigation. If anyone recognises this dog or saw anything suspicious in the area on Wednesday night or early Thursday morning then we’d urge them to get in touch.”
