The RSPCA hopes to inspire young people to consider a career with the animal welfare charity and is offering an exclusive insight into its vital work across a three-day virtual work experience programme.

The RSPCA, in collaboration with the UK’s leading social mobility charity, Speakers for Schools, is offering a unique and free Virtual Work Experience (VWEX) event for young people aged 14-19.

Taking place between 23-25 June, the three-day online programme will provide an exciting ‘whistle stop tour’ of the diverse career opportunities within the RSPCA to spark young people’s imaginations and offer an insight into the vital work the charity undertakes which often goes unseen.

Lee Harrison, Apprenticeships and Early Careers Manager at the RSPCA, said: “We are thrilled to partner with Speakers for Schools this year to offer this exciting Virtual Work Experience. It’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase the breadth of roles available at the RSPCA and to inspire young people who may not have considered a career in animal welfare before. We’re particularly eager to connect with students in key regions and demonstrate that a rewarding and impactful career at the RSPCA is within their reach.”

The VWEX aims to inspire and educate the next generation about potential careers at the RSPCA, positioning the organisation as an employer of choice for students as they consider their future. Speakers for Schools has already helped over 1.6 million young people by teaming up with educators, speakers, and employers.

Hannah Ottewill, Delivery Partner at Speakers for Schools, said: “We are delighted to be working with the RSPCA to provide this invaluable virtual work experience. Access to inspiring employers like the RSPCA is crucial in levelling the playing field for young people, helping them to explore different career paths and make informed decisions about their future.”

The jam-packed agenda features speakers from across the society, delivering informative and interactive workshops on a range of topics, including:
The Role Of An RSPCA Inspector
Animal Voice
Preventing Animal Cruelty
Jobs In Media At The RSPCA
Jobs In Science At The RSPCA (Animal Sentience)
The Role Of An RSPCA Vet
RSPCA & AI – The Future Of Animal Welfare

This comprehensive programme is designed to align with national careers guidance framework (Gatsby Benchmarks 2, 4, and 5), making it a valuable resource for schools looking to enhance their careers guidance provision.

While the event is open to all young people aged 14-19, the RSPCA and Speakers for Schools are particularly keen to reach students in the West Midlands, North East, North West, London, and Horsham areas.
