The Great Run Company and Merton Council have today (Thursday, 2 April) announced the name and inaugural date for ‘Run South London’: a brand-new half marathon bursting onto the scene on Sunday 14 March 2027.

Thousands of runners will take on a 13.1-mile route across the leafy London borough past some of the world’s most iconic sporting venues, across some of the best parks in the region, and through the historic streets of Wimbledon Village.

It will begin and end at the race village in Morden Park, Morden, taking advantage of the area’s excellent transport links at the start of the Northern Line.

Run South London is south London’s only closed-road half marathon.

Paul Foster, Chief Executive of The Great Run Company, said:
“We are incredibly proud to announce Run South London, an event that will showcase and celebrate everything that is great about south London.

“The Great Run Company has spent decades delivering world-class mass-participation events, and we are delighted to be working in partnership with Merton Council to bring thousands of participants the chance to take on this landmark event for the area.

“Run South London is an event with great opportunities, featuring a route that passes iconic sporting venues and some of the region’s best parks, while also offering valuable fundraising prospects for local charities. We’re confident it will become a highlight of London’s running calendar.”
On race weekend, thousands of runners and tens of thousands of supporters will generate a significant boost for Merton’s local economy, supporting high streets, cafés, shops, hotels and transport services. Local schools, sports clubs and community groups will be actively involved in the event, ensuring the benefits are felt well beyond those crossing the start line.

An independent economic impact study forecast an annual economic boost of up to £1.7m to local business.

The event will welcome participants of all ages and abilities, from those who are starting their running journeys to experienced athletes and promises to be one of the most exciting new additions to London’s running scene.
