Russia’s London embassy should be closed, says leading security expert

RUSSIA’S London embassy should be forced to close after it issued a tweet warning that captured militants in Ukraine will face a humiliating death by hanging, said a leading security expert.

Historian and author Professor Anthony Glees of the University of Buckingham told GB News: “The Russians have broken every agreement and treaty on Ukraine.

“They’re acting – you can’t say they’re acting like animals because animals don’t act like that – they’re acting like absolute war criminals and atrocious savages.

“In my book, the Russian Embassy in Kensington [they] should be told to go home and not return until they can behave in a civilised way in this country.”

In an interview on Breakfast with Stephen Dixon and Rosie Wright on GB News, he said: “Russia is clearly in a lot of trouble. We and the Americans assess that 75,000 Russian soldiers have either been killed or wounded.

“That’s a hell of a lot. And some 80% of active Russian forces are bogged down in the east of Ukraine.

“People will know Putin hoped to win this war in a matter of days and what has actually happened is that it’s grinding not just to a stalemate, but it does seem that the battle of Kherson will end up in Ukraine’s favour, that Russia will have a significant defeat.

He said: “I actually think Russia continues to be the number one threat and if we let this war in Ukraine drag on, we will be doing untold harm to the Ukrainian people, but also to ourselves.

“The message from the head of MI6 is that we need to send more kit to Ukraine…

“Liz Truss, who looks like being the next prime minister, has made it very clear that she is not going to commit British troops to fighting in Ukraine, but we will do everything short of that.

“I certainly think there’s a strong case for saying that the training of Ukrainian troops in the UK which is happening at the moment, they’re saying up to 10,000 troops are being trained in this way

“That is really significant because we can then give them the most up to date kit and that kit includes systems that can you shoot down Russian rockets, systems that can shoot down cruise missiles, and we’re also giving the Ukrainians Harpoon anti-ship missiles, which should help them get that grain out of Odessa.

“I know we’re in this country we’re all tied up in his leadership election but as far as Ukraine is concerned, we need now to exert massive pressure on Russia, sending our stuff there, they’re training their people protecting their people, and hopefully we can get Putin to talk sensible peace terms before the winter sets in.”

He added: “Putin continues to lob missiles all over Ukraine…his troops are stuck, but his missiles go everywhere.

“If we are really tough, I think we can squeeze Putin if he’s not terminally ill, but just cracked.”
