SHARD LIGHTS RETURNS FOR CHRISTMAS 2021

The Shard’s annual seasonal display – Shard Lights – will return on Wednesday 1st December; with a unique light display designed to celebrate the spirit of togetherness.

The top 20 storeys of Western Europe’s tallest building will be lit up with a festive light display, inspired by the opportunity for the nation to once again unite with loved ones this festive season, following two years of forced separation.

Members of London’s emergency services and their families will be invited to switch on the lights, giving special recognition to the selfless work they do through the festive period to allow the nation to celebrate safely, often keeping them from being with their own loved ones.

This follows last year’s display, which was designed to show gratitude to all NHS staff and key workers across the UK for their tireless work to keep the nation safe throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. Shard Lights 2021 will open this thanks more widely to acknowledge the indispensable work done by other emergency services, including the Fire Brigade and Ambulance Services.

Shard Lights 2021 will begin on the evening of 1st of December. The display will then run every day from 4pm to 1am, filling the sky in London with a dazzling spectacle of light and encouraging Londoners to look up and reflect on the relationships with loved ones that are so important during the festive season.

Real Estate Management (UK) Limited (“REM”), asset manager for The Shard, has once again collaborated with renowned lighting designer, Woodroffe Bassett Design, to create the installation.

Given their height and location, it is estimated that Shard Lights are the most viewed seasonal display in the UK each year. Many of the 8 million people living across the capital will catch a glimpse of them either from their homes or whilst they are on the move.
