Sky Arts is launching free ‘Inspired by Hockney’ creative workshops throughout September to help the nation get in touch with its artistic side, following the news that almost half of adults don’t have any art supplies in their home and one in five haven’t picked up a paintbrush other than to decorate.
An army of artists across the country are set to host workshops in a variety of intriguing spaces, from a deserted medieval village to a seaside pier, park bandstand and more. All free to attend, the classes will also take place in London, Manchester, Glasgow, Cardiff, Bradford, Hastings and Dartmoor and will be suitable for all artistic abilities, with each artist helping participants take inspiration from the colourful world of Hockney himself.
24th September:
Illustrator Lizzie King will be creating bold and playful collages inspired by the David Hockney palette, with the designs then transferred to a t-shirt or tote bag to take home. Dalston Curve Garden, 10:30am – 1pm.
30th September:
Artist Eloisa Henderson-Figuero will be using her love of collage and drawing to lead a workshop inspired by Hockney’s paintings of landscapes. Oxford House rooftop, Bethnal Green, 10:30am – 12:30pm.
30th September:
Painter Jade Connolly will experiment with mark-making, using oil pastels and acrylic paints. Spitalfields City Farm, 10am – 12pm.
Attendees will find their creative side through a variety of mediums, from screen printing and collage to drawing and painting. Sky Arts is hosting the workshops to mark the launch of the Celebrating David Hockney films – available to watch on demand on Sky and NOW.
