Solace Womens’ Aid and London Designer Outlet celebrate third year of ‘In Their Shoes’ Initiative

This year marks the third annual ‘In Their Shoes’ Christmas campaign from London Designer Outlet (LDO) and Solace Women’s Aid. Building on the momentum and community spirit of previous years, this initiative has set an ambitious goal: to provide over 300 pairs of warm, sturdy winter shoes to women and children in refuge across London this Christmas.

A Partnership with Purpose
The ‘In Their Shoes’ campaign responds to an urgent need for essential items among women and children affected by domestic violence. For many, leaving home means leaving behind belongings, and this initiative provides immediate support and a sense of empowerment for those starting to rebuild their lives.
Through the community’s generosity, LDO and Solace hope to offer not only shoes but also comfort and confidence to those they support. The community is encouraged to participate by purchasing and donating new winter shoes, which will be distributed directly to families in refuge.

Michelle D’Vaz-Plant, Head of Marketing at LDO, says, “This year, our commitment to supporting women and children in our local communities is stronger than ever. It’s truly a collective effort, with support coming through both donations and acts of kindness. We’re inspired to see the LDO brands, our guests and the Brent community unite once again to make a real difference.”

“Emotional abuse affects one in two women and at least 85% of the women we support”, says Nahar Choudhury, Solace CEO. “The lasting impact and trauma of emotional abuse is often overlooked in the context of violence and abuse, but we see firsthand how controlling behaviours such as belittling, silencing and gaslighting can not only be some of the early signs of potential physical and sexual abuse but can be devastating in themselves. The third year of this initiative reaffirms the profound impact that community solidarity can have. Our ongoing partnership with London Designer Outlet is a beacon of hope for the women and children we support, and every donation we receive has the power to change lives.”.

How to Get Involved
To participate, simply purchase a pair of suitable winter shoes for women or children from any of the stores within London Designer Outlet. Donations can be dropped off at Guest Services by December 8th.

LDO is looking for children’s shoes suitable for boys and girls aged 4-8, and women’s sizes 4-7 UK. There are a variety of footwear brands available at LDO offering shoes of varying styles and price points.

Only new shoes that are purchased from stores within London Designer Outlet apply. Please ensure they are sensible winter shoes.

LDO x Solace
Since 2021, LDO has demonstrated its commitment to the community by providing over 700 pairs of shoes and essential household items to Solace’s 22 centres across London.
Each year, Solace supports nearly 20,000 women and girls across London and currently provides refuge for close to 1,000 women and children in 22 safe centres. This year, the charity has launched its 2024 Christmas campaign, #IseeMaya, featuring a unique Maya decoration. Maya symbolises women who have been silenced or who have disappeared from their social circles and friendships due to emotional abuse.

As part of this initiative, LDO will support Solace’s Christmas campaign by selling Maya decorations at LDO Guest Services, with proceeds going directly to Solace.

This December, LDO will also host a ceremonial Christmas tree lighting on Wednesday 4th December, featuring the ‘Tree of Soles,’ with lights representing the women and children currently in refuge across London this Christmas. The event will be attended by representatives from Solace and key community figureheads.
