Chiswick Flower Market today confirmed that Sophie Ellis-Bextor will be turning on the lights on Chiswick’s Christmas Tree at 5.30pm on Saturday 4th December.
Having raised more than £1m for Children in Need last week, the singer who entertained the country with her Kitchen Disco songs broadcast live from Chiswick during the lockdown in 2020, will be lighting up Chiswick High Road.
The festivities start at 5pm when choirs from local schools, Belmont Primary and famous stage school Arts Ed, will sing carols before Sophie – and the Mayor of Hounslow – take centre stage to turn on the tree.
The festivities will continue into the evening with mulled wine and mince pies available, with select local shops staying open late.
The celebrations continue on Sunday when the Chiswick Christmas Flower Market opens at 9.30am with some of the largest selections of flowers and plants in London – all entirely from independent businesses at what has become the “Columbia Road of the West.” The market will also have an area for local retailers who will be selling Christmas gifts and will be offering special offers as part of their partnerships with local shops.
The fun continues with street entertainment from Chivaree Circus, with stilt-walking ice queens and kings, together with music from Chiswick Rock Choir and other talented emerging local musicians. The market will also bring a party atmosphere with a street BBQ and face-painting which the organisers hope will help kick-off a buoyant Chiswick High Road Christmas!
