Four charities that support communities across South East London have received donations totalling £8,000 following nominations of support from the team at Amazon’s delivery centre in Belvedere and the company’s head office in Shoreditch.

The donations were made to Time and Talents Association, Greener and Cleaner, Greenwich Foodbank and Eastside Educational Trust. Amazon made the donations in recognition of the positive impact the charities have on people across South East London. Each charity received £2,000.

Time and Talents Association provides ways for the community to connect and reduce isolation. The charity offers a wide range of activities including skills-sharing, volunteering opportunities and school holiday activity clubs.

Greener and Cleaner works towards a more sustainable way of life for the communities across South East London. The charity provides information and advice on reducing environmental impact at home, work and in the wider South East London community.

Greenwich Foodbank works to combat poverty and hunger by providing a minimum of three days’ worth of healthy, balanced meals and emotional support to people who are in need.

Eastside Educational Trust ’s mission is to inspire the country’s most underserved young people through participation in arts programmes that develop their skills and creative thinking.

Ankit Anand, Business Development Manager for Alexa nominated Eastside Educational Trust for support:

“As a London resident, working with Eastside Educational Trust is an extremely rewarding and fulfilling experience. I want to give back to my local community and invest in the future of the community to provide a platform for young people to express themselves. I strongly believe in Eastside’s vision to build towards a future in which children and young people’s creativity is unlocked, nurtured and celebrated. Eastside’s workshops and programmes introduce young people to the world of the arts, culture and creativity, giving them chances and life changing opportunities that they would not otherwise have.”

Matt Lane Chief Executive Officer / Artistic Director from Eastside Educational Trust, said:

“It is fantastic to receive this donation from Amazon. On behalf of all the staff, artists, trustees and volunteers at Eastside Educational Trust, I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Amazon for their support and recognition. This year we have inspired more than 40,000 young people in South East London and across the country and, with donations like this, we can continue to inspire and encourage many more children and young people who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to take part in our special programmes of work.”

These donations form part of Amazon’s Volunteer Cash Donation Programme, where Amazon employees nominate local causes where they volunteer their time, to receive a cash donation from the company. Throughout September, Amazon employees are getting together for Amazon’s Global Month of Volunteering, an initiative that aims to help the communities where they live and work. In collaboration with hundreds of community organisations around the world, Amazon employees will participate and lead in-person and virtual volunteering opportunities to support causes they’re passionate about.
“Throughout September, we will come together to help some incredible organisations who are making a real difference in the areas where our employees live and work,” said John Boumphrey, Amazon UK Country Manager. “It’s fantastic to see our employees sharing their ideas and tapping into their passions to give back to our local communities.”

Community donations and employee volunteering are just two of the ways Amazon supports the communities in and around its operating locations across the UK. Amazon provides students, teachers and parents with free computer science and STEM education programmes through Amazon Future Engineer and has teamed up with charity partner Magic Breakfast to deliver more than six million healthy breakfasts to children at risk of hunger in disadvantaged areas of the country. Earlier this year, Amazon partnered with Comic Relief to become the official home of the Red Nose. Amazon employees across the UK hosted fundraising activities and together with their customers and partners, raised £2.7 million to support those going through the toughest time of their lives.
