South London charity awarded £25,000 boost to support local residents

A South London charity, the Separated Child Foundation, that supports children from war zones, has received a £25,000 donation from CharityJob, the UK’s largest charity job board.
The Separated Child Foundation is one of just five small charities across the country chosen to benefit from CharityJob’s annual donation fund, which this year is £70,000, which supports local organisations making a real difference in their communities.

The funding will help the Separated Child Foundation support children and young children who have to flee their homeland without their parents because of war, terror, or persecution. Within the UK’s population of refugees and people seeking asylum, there are about 6,000 children and young people who have been separated from their parents and close family, and known in official statistics as ‘unaccompanied minors’. More than half of them live in London or the South East and the rest are increasingly spread throughout the UK. The Separated Child Foundation offers emotional, social and physical support to separated children and young people who are asylum seekers or refugees in Britain up to the age of 21.

Thousands apply for CharityJob’s annual donation

As part of its annual commitment to give back to the sector, CharityJob invited members of its sister site, CharityConnect, to apply for a share of this year’s fund.
More than 1,000 small charities applied, each meeting eligibility criteria such as having 50 or fewer employees, an income of under £1 million, and at least one year of published accounts.

Following a thorough review process, a CharityJob panel selected five recipients for donations between £10,000 and £25,000.

This year’s chosen charities are:

The Separated Child Foundation
CRADLE Charity
Surrey Drug and Alcohol Care
Warwickshire Pride
Dragonfly Cancer Trust

“We’re thrilled with this year’s chosen charities,” said Raya Wexler, co-founder of CharityJob and CharityConnect.
“Each of these charities, like so many, need support, but what was evident to us in the decision-making process was that each had a definite plan of what they would do with the funds, with very clear, tangible results as an outcome. It was important for us to know the impact of our donation and we’re very happy it will go toward helping so many people.”

Helping small charities through difficult times
Wexler added that supporting small charities has never been more important:

“Given the challenging mix of economic pressures – such as the cost-of-living crisis, higher National Insurance costs, and wider global instability – which always lead to a drop in public donations, it’s no wonder that many charities are facing serious financial difficulties. This is why we feel it’s more important than ever to give back, particularly to smaller charities that are more susceptible to economic pressures and less equipped to weather crises.”

With this year’s funding, CharityJob’s total donations now exceed £1.49 million, supporting 123 different charities over the last 25 years.

“We feel incredibly privileged to support such meaningful organisations,” Wexler said.
“This opportunity is made possible thanks to the recruiters who advertise with us – their support directly fuels our ability to give back to the sector we love.”
