Southgate Beaumont Care Home shines bright for festivals of lights

Residents at Southgate Beaumont in Southgate had a brilliant day on Monday 20th October as they marked the start of the Hindu festival of Diwali, popularly known as the ‘festival of lights’.

The care home was transformed with beautiful decorations, which brought warmth, happiness and joy to all who live and work there. Residents were treated to a special demonstration of how to put on a traditional sari and also feasted on delicious traditional treats. The staff dressed in their finest attire adding to the festive atmosphere and residents participated in a fun Diwali quiz whilst listening to lively Indian music.

Southgate Beaumont is committed to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for residents from all backgrounds. We believe that celebrating festivals like Diwali helps to promote cultural understanding and a sense of community. Diwali honours Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, the bright decorations help Lakshmi find her way into people’s homes.

Head chef Daniel prepared traditional Indian delights including a range of spicy samosas and papadums with lime pickle and chutneys.

John, resident at Southgate Beaumont commented: “I love all of the different cultural events that we celebrate here, there’s always something going on and I really enjoy sampling different foods from around the world”

Beatrice Godfrey, General Manager at Southgate Beaumont said: “To celebrate Diwali at the home was fantastic, the colourful decorations created a very wonderful atmosphere and our chef made the most delicious dishes – everyone had a fantastic time.”
