Southside Shopping Centre in Wandsworth has unveiled a refreshed look.
Having undergone a multi-million-pound refresh, the centre has made significant enhancements to both the exterior and interior of the mall, creating a more welcoming and dynamic environment for visitors, while confirming Southside’s status as a contemporary and vibrant retail and leisure destination at the heart of the borough.
The new design pays homage to the borough’s rich history while seamlessly integrating with Wandsworth town which has been undergoing significant revitalisation. By combining modern aesthetics with community heritage, the refreshed centre offers an inviting space that enhances the overall shopping experience for visitors, whilst attracting an exciting mix of brands, reinforcing its role as a hub within the evolving landscape of Wandsworth.
With inspiration drawn from the historical fixtures of the borough, including the Wandsworth Aqueduct and Wandsworth Stadium, the North entrance on Wandsworth High Street and South entrance on Garratt Lane have been remodelled, and now include looped metal arches and red brick features. The entrances have been designed in keeping with the established townscape, with Southside forming an integral part of Wandsworth.
The wall to the West entrance has been transformed with art created by local artist, Ruki Chuki. The brickwork now features a welcoming mural featuring bright colours which portray the vibrancy and diversity in the community, while demonstrating not just the array of different cultures and backgrounds but also how love transcends communities and connects different people no matter their background.
Inside, the upper concourse has been extensively redesigned and redeveloped and now features integrated seating which aims to foster a sense of community and encourage social cohesion. The space, which has been designed with the site’s history as Wandsworth Greyhound Stadium in mind, allows individuals and groups to come together and socialise in a welcoming environment.
New lighting and wayfinding have also been introduced to facilitate guest experience while brightening and enhancing the visual appeal of the centre. Energy-efficient LED strip-lighting has been installed creating a cohesive aesthetic that seamlessly integrates both the internal and external decor.
The refresh follows a year of significant growth for Southside, marked by the arrival of Lidl, Fluffy Fluffy and Foresthaven, along with the upsize of H&M, Poundland and the Fragrance Shop. The completion of these works comes at an exciting time, as Wandsworth prepares to celebrate its year as London’s Borough of Culture for 2025. The centre is also set to welcome several new retail and lifestyle brands, including Padel Social Club.
A spokesperson for Southside Shopping Centre, commented: “We’re delighted to announce the completion of our centre refresh, and unveil a fresh new look which brings a modern feel to the centre, fosters a sense of community, and enriches the everyday experience for those who live, work, and visit Wandsworth.
“Over the past year, we have been committed to enhancing the guest experience by welcoming a diverse range of new brands. These additions, alongside the refurbishment, have significantly bolstered our offering as a premier shopping and leisure destination.
“Southside is proud to be a central part of Wandsworth as it ushers in its year as Borough of Culture this April. These improvements reflect our dedication to creating a welcoming space that celebrates Wandsworth and attracts visitors for both shopping and leisure.
