Specsavers in Kingston upon Thames, located at the top end of Clarence Street has just completed a refurbishment, with the store partners investing over £20,000 to expand its hearcare testing facilities.

With the works undertaken in rapid time, over a four-week period, the store has now doubled its audiology capacity, with the installation of additional state-of-the-art micro suction equipment, which offers wax removal clinics six days a week. The investment also included the introduction of video otoscopes which are used to examine the health of the ears, diagnosing and treating ear infections and growths. They allow the audiologist to view the ear before and after a procedure, and to remove debris within the ear.

Additional services are provided by the audiology team, including 15-minute screeners to assess a customer’s hearing capacity, wax removal, hearing aid fitting and adjustment to the programming of a patient’s hearing aid.

The store has been providing audiology and eye care services to the bustling Kingston community for almost 20 years. With a store team of 45, the optical team are trained in different areas of the business, including contact lens support, and hearcare.

Customers can browse for new frames, which include the Specsavers budget glasses starting at £15, to high end brands such as Vivienne Westward, Liberty London, Hugo Boss and Marc Jacobs. There are four daily sight clinics, with on the day emergency appointments, so everyone is catered for.

Natalie Jones, hearing aid audiologist director said; ‘We have seen an increase in demand for more hearing clinics during the last year. With this doubling of our capacity, we can now better support the Hearing Services of the local community.’

Retail director, Guy Loveday commented; ‘We are very proud of our team who are committed, professional and here to assist customers by providing them with outstanding service and care. We’re delighted with the additional testing areas, which will significantly enhance our service provision.’

Hearing tests are recommended annually for people over 60, and every two years for people under sixty. Specsavers recommend that adults have an eye test at least every two years, children should visit every year. The NHS will cover the full cost of an eye test for anyone who qualifies. All children under 16, as well as those under 19 in full-time education, are entitled to an NHS funded eye test.

For sporty children, contact lenses might be an option – the store team are happy to assist with their fitting.
