Spitalfields announce a special celebration marking 20 years since the vibrant market’s regeneration was completed in 2005. The anniversary event will take place on Thursday, 4 September 2025, from 12:30pm to 8:30pm, across Bishops Square and the wider Spitalfields Estate, with further celebrations continuing throughout September.
This special milestone will celebrate two decades since the area’s transformation into one of London’s most dynamic and diverse destinations. Spitalfields is a bustling hub where history and contemporary design meet, offering everything from standout fashion labels and street food vendors, to independent market traders and acclaimed restaurants, cafes and bars. The full-day event will bring the destination to life with live music, dance performances, exclusive offers, family friendly games, and in-store moments, giving locals and visitors the perfect opportunity to discover all that Spitalfields has to offer.
The Bishops Square Main Stage will play host to a programme of live performances from musicians who are a key part of the destination’s identity and regularly perform at Spitalfields. The lineup includes regular destination performers The Rookery (led by singer-songwriter James L Burton), The Latin Formula (Cubin and Venezulean musicians) Reggae DJ Skowa Kabala, Rock Choir (the UK’s original, award-winning contemporary choir experience) and many more. There will also be free local favourite group dance sessions such as The Tea Dance at 12:45pm – 1:30pm & 2pm – 3pm (monthly session attended by 100 dancers that has taken place in Crispin Place since 2006) and Tango Fever at 6:05 PM – 6:35 PM (outdoor tango dancing sessions that has taken place in Spitalfields since 2007.
Retailers, restaurants and food kiosks will also take part in the celebrations with ‘The Power of 20’ promotions and will offer 20% discounts on selected store collections and dining experiences. To highlight the people behind the market’s success, a “Spitalfields Spotlights” series will run on the destination’s socials throughout September, featuring interviews with influential figures from the community. The redevelopment has paved the way for many landmark moments, from the launch of the Spitalfields Arts Market in 2007 and Saturday Style Market in 2013, to recent highlights such as the opening of the Amazon Salon in 2021 and the ON Running flagship store in 2023. Today, Spitalfields is recognised as a creative hub, from welcoming global festivals to community-driven events including SXSW London, Fashion District Festival and most recently “Every Step Matters” with Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.
