Sixteen hardworking and talented members of Stagecoach Queens Park, ages ranging from 10 – 17 years, proudly represented their school on stage at the famous Shaftesbury Theatre.
Stagecoach Queens Park opened the show with Broadway, Baby! a Tribute to all those Broadway hopefuls who were brave and determined enough to follow their dreams. The excited students rehearsed tirelessly for weeks, bringing their own charm and creativity to this thrilling project and absolutely adored the theme.
But no show is without drama behind the scenes! Mere minutes before curtain up, Principal Anne Marie discovered that one of the girl’s costumes had been left behind in the school where rehearsals had taken place the previous day. Flying into action and toward the Bakerloo line, Anne Marie saved the day by completing the round trip (Oxford Circus-Kensal Green) in a record one hour and ten minutes delivering the costume just in time to save the show!
Devised and directed by opera singer and musical theatre performer Tom O ‘Kelly, the piece featured the numbers ‘Give My Regards to Boadway’, ‘Broadway Baby’, ‘NYC’ and ‘New York, New York’.
Director Tom was blown away by the student’s performance:
‘The talented cast performed with gusto and passion. Their parents were on cloud nine afterwards and many a proud tear was shed, all of them agreed that the performance and the night was a triumph, an absolutely amazing and unforgettable evening – the joy was felt for many days after.’
Principal Anne Marie thinks back on their successful show:
‘Many call Stagecoach their happy place, a place where they are free to be themselves and explore their creativity. This troupe and the performance experience at the Shaftesbury was an unforgettable experience for them, they felt like shining stars for a day. The students worked so hard in the lead up and wow did it pay off!’
