Stagecoach, the UK’s largest bus and coach operator, has been announced by Transport for London as transport supplier for the cycle shuttle-bus in Silvertown tunnel, currently being built under the Thames and set to open in 2025. The 1.4km tunnel, with dedicated bus lane, will help reduce congestion at the Blackwall Tunnel while also contributing to improved air quality and public transport links.
Stagecoach will operate an innovative cross-river cycle shuttlebus. The operator will provide a high frequency service for cyclists to board the bus with their bike to travel through the tunnel.
Stagecoach has committed to transformative investments across its operations, as part of its journey to decarbonisation. Assisting in managing the environmental impact of traffic in the area, the operator will help transform how residents cross the river by bus for work, education and leisure.
Paul Lynch, Managing Director for Stagecoach London, said: “It is fantastic that Stagecoach can help expand the ways the local community connect to what matters most to them. This new addition to our network will build on our ambitions for a thriving local bus network with sustainability at its core.”
