Remote working can be a spectacular perk, allowing us to work where we wish without having to spend time and money on a daily commute. But, for some, the comfort of home working can become too much, and we can slowly slip into a state of laziness.
In 2020, the majority of the population was forced into working from home because of COVID, which highlighted many benefits of working from home for many of us. This being said, being stuck at home and having to communicate with friends and colleagues through a screen was not the most ideal situation.
Despite this, there are still some employees who have decided to continue working from home despite the abolishment of Covid-19 restrictions. But is remote working still right for you? If you’re still working from home, here are 5 reasons for you to seriously consider returning to office life.
- The work routine
Many of us develop a routine when we work in an office, and whether we like that routine or not, we soon start to miss it when we have the freedom of working from home. Sure, remote working gives us a sense of freedom, but it’s so much more difficult to stick to a routine and we lose productivity because of this. Remote working now and then clouds see great benefits but it’s best to get in the office and benefit from following a more productive routine.
- Socialising
When working with friends, 22% of employees feel they are equally or more productive, and 21% believe it makes them more creative. A lot of people’s main form of socialisation takes place in the workplace, and socialising is essential for ensuring better well being and a sense of happiness.
- Collaboration
Offices are full of creative and hardworking individuals from all backgrounds. You may work in a small team, but that’s more reason to get in the office, as you can all collaborate to get work done more efficiently without having to set up Skype calls and such. Being able to communicate with and speak to your colleagues in person boosts everyone’s productivity and morale. If you’re part of a larger office, this means there are more people to potentially collaborate with, gain ideas from, and speak to, even if you’re just catching up with someone for a coffee break.
- Career progression
If you’re in an office-based job, the chances are you want to work your way up to have some sort of career ambitions. What good is being sat at home going to do for your career progression? Of course, your goal may be to have that freedom of being able to work from wherever you want but if you have other ambitious goals and want to progress your career, being in the office could increase your chances of progressing your career.
- Office perks and benefits
Remote working may save you commute costs but working in an office can bring all sorts of surprises. Whether it be free teas and coffees, the free birthday cake for employee birthdays, or the excitement you get when a client spontaneously gifts you all a sweet hamper or a takeaway pizza, working in the office can bring some unexpected perks that can make you that little bit happier than if you were sat at home.
