SUPER JUMBLE: The Great British Jumble Sale Reinvented

0

The Jumble Sale, is a British institution since the 1880s, and the forerunner of car boot sales and charity shops is getting a bold reinvention. On Saturday 25 October, the second edition of SUPER JUMBLE lands at Mercato Metropolitano, Elephant & Castle, transforming the traditional rummage sale into a full-scale, high-energy event.

After a sold-out debut earlier this year, SUPER JUMBLE is back bigger, louder, and packed with more bargains. Two of the UK’s leading champions of second-hand fashion – Traid, London’s best charity fashion retailer, and Charity Super.Mkt, the pioneering multi-charity pop-up, is teaming up to bring thousands of affordable vintage and second-hand gems to London.

This isn’t your average jumble. Expect MCs, live DJs spinning vinyl, klaxons, street food, pints, and plenty of elbows-out energy as hundreds of sustainable shoppers scramble for treasures.

How it works
SUPER JUMBLE runs across three timed sessions. SUPER JUMBLE is all about timing.
The earlier you arrive, the more choices you’ll have. Entry is pre-ticketed (with some availability at £1 extra on the door), and your advanced ticket price also becomes the price you pay per item.

• Early Bird (10:00am entry) – £7 per ticket / £7 per item. First pick.
• Second Wave (12:00pm entry) – £4 per ticket / £4 per item.
• Final Wave (1:30pm entry) – £2.50 per ticket / £2.50 per item.

More than a jumble sale
Beyond the bargain hunting, Mercato Metropolitano comes alive with over 40 global street food Traders from Himalayan dumplings to Syrian wraps, to Mexican favourites, classic Italian Neapolitan pizza and more, there’s something for every taste. Plus, throughout the event, DJs will provide the perfect party soundtrack to accompany all the rummaging.

Why it matters
The fashion industry is producing more clothes than ever before, despite there already being enough garments on the planet to dress the next six generations. Fast fashion continues to fuel overproduction, waste, and pollution.

Super Jumble highlights the scale of the issue while offering a fun, affordable, and sustainable way to shop. The aim is to push the UK from 71% of people wearing second-hand clothing to 100%. It’s about keeping clothes in use, saving them from landfill and incineration, and making fashion exciting again without the environmental cost.
What they say
Maria Chenoweth, co-founder of SUPER JUMBLE, CEO of Traid and co-founder of Charity Super.Mkt, said:
“SUPER JUMBLE is about scale, fun and purpose. Fashion is overproduced and undervalued, there are already enough clothes to dress the next six generations. By making second-hand affordable, accessible, and exciting, we’ll get more people embracing it for the good of the planet.”

Wayne Hemingway, co-founder of HemingwayDesign, Red or Dead, and Charity Super.Mkt, added:
“The jumble sale was where it all began for me as a punk in the 70s. That thrill of the chase, hunting down prints and fabrics, has never left me. SUPER JUMBLE brings it back on a massive scale, with music, food, and atmosphere.”

Daliela Salih, Brand & Marketing Director at Mercato Metropolitano, said:
“Our first trial run was joyous – thousands of bargains, music, food, and the fun of whether to buy now or wait for the next price drop. SUPER JUMBLE is a brilliant way to spend a Saturday at Mercato.”
