Local fashionistas from Hammersmith and Fulham descended on Livat Hammersmith over the bank holiday weekend to participate in a unique Sustainable Clothes Swap. With the help of local stylist Michelle Marks, over forty five visitors were able to bring along some unwanted clothes, and trade them in for a new look.
Run in collaboration with Hammersmith & Fulham Council and the Shepherds Bush Families Project, families were invited to bring old school and work clothes along to swap with others and receive a wallet-friendly and sustainable wardrobe makeover. Surplus clothing from the event was donated back to Shepherds Bush Families Project to help support local families.
Michelle Marks, stylist from House of Colour commented: “It was great to be involved in this local initiative at Livat Hammersmith, working with visitors to help them refresh their autumn wardrobe for less. I really enjoyed chatting with the local community and helping them find their perfect outfit.”
The event was part of a series of popular free events and activities throughout August held at Livat Hammersmith, designed to help Londoners affordably and sustainably give their homes and wardrobes an Autumn refresh. The Refresh & Re-love Hub at Livat Hammersmith offered visitors a range of cost effective and sustainable ways to update the home & wardrobe throughout the school holidays.
Natalia Petalina, Meeting Place Manager at Livat Hammersmith commented: “As the cost of living continues to be a worry for many, we have put on events at our meeting place to help visitors find more sustainable ways of living. It was great to see the local community getting involved with the clothes swap, and even better to support the families in Shepherds Bush in return. I hope those who swapped their clothes love their new styles!”
Tina Mayers, CEO of the Shepherds Bush Families Project, commented: “The coming months are a real worry for many in the local community, and we were delighted to be involved with this lovely community initiative. We are sure those who will benefit from the clothing will be extremely happy.”
Livat Hammersmith first opened at the beginning of this year, bringing a little taste of Sweden to Hammersmith. Now, having been open for over four months, the new meeting place has found its place in the local community. Recent openings include Atelier 100 – a collaboration between Ingka Group and H&M of a unique retail incubator programme for hyper-local designs and products from within 100km of the meeting place – and the Library of Things – a community-powered social enterprise helps people save money and reduce waste by affordably renting out useful items like drills, sound systems and sewing machines.
