The work will be part of the £14.1 million funding from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund to transform public transport in the Belmont area, including doubling the number of train services.
The Council is proposing to make improvements to Brighton Road with new signage, improved lighting, wider footpaths and relocating bus stops. They would also like to add seating, plant greenery and add pedestrian crossings on Brighton Road and Cotswold Road.
More information about the proposals is available on the Council’s website: https://sutton.citizenspace.com/resources/walking-and-cycling-lch
The consultation launched on Monday 27 November and closes at midnight on Thursday 7 December.
People can also find out more about the proposals at a drop-in event on Tuesday 5 December at the Innovation Gateway, London Cancer Hub between 2pm and 9pm.
Councillor Barry Lewis, Chair of Sutton Council’s Environment and Sustainable Transport Committee, said:
“We’re pleased to be working with Network Rail on transforming Belmont Station and making it easier for people to walk and cycle to the London Cancer Hub.
“The London Cancer Hub will bring 13,000 new jobs in health, science, education and construction to Sutton. These improvements to walking and cycling are just one of the ways we’re preparing for this boost to our local economy so we can create strong and fair growth and new jobs for our residents.”
