Working for Walthamstow is hosting a Sell or Swap event at 17&Central throughout July in a bid to cut costs and improve Walthamstow’s carbon footprint.
A sustainability initiative designed to help the local community navigate the high cost of living and reduce its carbon footprint, the Working for Walthamstow team, led by MP, Stella Creasy will be recycling, repairing and re-using clothes, children’s toys, furniture, electrical goods and other items at the shopping centre.
Stella explains: “With the UK facing ongoing challenges from the cost of living and climate crises, this project is about bringing people together and creating a new community around saving carbon and cutting costs at the same time. We want to help residents share, reuse, repair and recycle, to show that saving the planet and saving money can be done together, and shouldn’t be seen in opposition.”
The Sell or Swap, which launched on 1 July 17&Central is taking place in a vacant unit at the shopping centre, previously the home of Claire’s Accessories. 17&Central is supporting the initiative by offering the space at no cost, as well as using its social channels to promote the initiative.
Gwendolyne Lobo, Marketing Manager for 17&Central commented: “We are delighted to be able to support this initiative at the shopping centre. Like everyone else, we are concerned by the cost of living crisis and would like to do our bit to help the local community.”
The initiative, which is manned by volunteers will run throughout the whole of July.
