Three good causes received a welcome cash boost when community-conscious colleagues at Tesco stores in New Malden handed out grants worth £3000.
Momentum Children’s charity received a cheque for £1,500, the grant will help supporting families whose children are going through cancer treatment and bereavement.
Another establishment to receive funding was Kingston Hospital charity. It was awarded £1,500 to make special provision for children and young people with mental health concerns presenting at Kingston Hospital.
The third good cause to be awarded funds was Grand Avenue Primary and Nursery School for Wildlife Area. It received £500, which will be used to create a haven that will support native wildlife and provide both a learning space and a calm area for their children.
The funding came from Tesco’s Stronger Starts scheme, in partnership with the Groundwork charity, which supports many local area community projects and good causes, giving away thousands of pounds.
Rupert Meredith-Jones, Fundraising Manager at Kingston Hospital Charity, said: “Thank you to Tesco New Malden and customers for choosing their charity and for raising £1,500 as the grant will go to arrange special provision for children and young people with Mental health concerns.”
Customers can use the Stronger Starts scheme to support local groups by dropping the Tesco Community Token they receive at checkout into the relevant voting box as they leave the Store.
Preeti Ahluwalia, Community champion at New Malden, said: “Tesco is always ready to help local community groups, who are interested in providing help to people by giving them donations, arranging fundraising events and giving them the proper channel as to where they can apply if they want food collection on a regular basis.”
