Thousands of walkers have raised an incredible £2.1 million for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity by taking on The Banham Marsden March.

The Charity’s flagship fundraising event, which took place on Sunday 11 May, attracted over 7,000 participants, walking the five-mile route or 15 miles between The Royal Marsden’s hospitals in Chelsea and Sutton.

Many taking part were former or current patients, along with their family and friends, and staff at The Royal Marsden.

Supporters could also take on The Banham Marsden March at Home, which allows you to choose your own route and distance anywhere in the world.

The money raised will fund ground-breaking research, the development of new treatments and care at The Royal Marsden, benefiting cancer patients across the UK and around the world.

Since it began in 2011, The Banham Marsden March has raised over £21 million for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, thanks to the incredible efforts of those who have taken part. This year marks the first time that the event has raised over £2 million which will have a profound effect on the lives of cancer patients.

The 2025 event marked the 10th anniversary of the special partnership between the Charity and leading security provider Banham, which is the title sponsor for both the in-person and at-home events.

Banham’s generosity and support, both as the event’s title sponsor and through their employees who sign up to fundraise and participate in the event every year, has helped to fund vital research to improve the lives of cancer patients both across the UK and around the world.

Antonia Dalmahoy, Managing Director of The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, said:

“We are so grateful to everyone who made The Banham Marsden March such a fantastic event once again, as well as everyone who took on The Banham Marsden March at Home. Every walker, volunteer and supporter who came out on the day has helped make a difference to people affected by cancer.

“We are thrilled that we have surpassed £2 million raised for the first time, which will go towards funding pioneering research to improve the lives of cancer patients and their families worldwide.

“Banham’s support is invaluable, and thanks to them we have been able to grow The Banham Marsden March into the incredible event that it is today.”

Charles Hallatt, Executive Chairman at Banham, said:

“It was fantastic to be part of The Banham Marsden March once again. This year, as we celebrated the 10th anniversary of our partnership with The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, 102 staff members participated in the event, creating the biggest Team Banham ever and raising vital funds to support people affected by cancer at The Royal Marsden and beyond.”

Sue Baker, who was diagnosed with stage 4 sarcoma at The Royal Marsden in 2016, took part in The Banham Marsden March 2025.

Speaking at the start line, she said: “Every step today is a thank you. It is an incredible acknowledgment of every participant’s hard work in training, fundraising, going through recovery themselves or healing, for the people who are here to honour loved ones. The Banham Marsden March is a thank you to the amazing team at The Royal Marsden, who never give up.
