The Mall, Wood Green celebrated Eid with a special community event at the shopping centre.
To mark this important occasion, The Mall arranged for a henna artist to visit its premises on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 June. The event took place between 11-4pm on the ground floor of The Mall, close to Primark.
In order to keep costs for shoppers to a minimum, The Mall charged just £1 per person for eye-catching henna tattoos. In total over £100 was raised for the Godwin Lawson Foundation, The Mall’s newly appointed charity partner.
Established in 2012 by Yvonne Lawson, the charity’s main aims are to celebrate the life of Godwin Lawson, who lost his life in an unprovoked knife attack in 2010 and to reduce gun and knife crime across London.
The Godwin Lawson Foundation works with youngsters from across North London, building their self-esteem and self-confidence and creating safe places for them to go.
Gwendolyne Lobo, Marketing Manager for The Mall added: “”We wanted to embrace and celebrate this joyous occasion in some way by offering something a little different in the centre. Everyone was welcome, of all faiths and none, and we were delighted to see so many people from the community joining in. It was a great way to kick off our fundraising campaign for the Godwin Lawson Foundation and make locals aware of this fantastic and incredibly hardworking charity.”
