Last night (Thursday 25th September), the Royal Docks staged the debut of Rekindling, a mesmerising fire spectacle, outside City Hall. French fire alchemists, Compagnie Carabosse and Royal Docks communities combined to create an evocative fire installation on land and water. Featuring sounds, music, and stories from around the docks, Rekindling explored the metamorphosis of the Royal Docks from the Industrial Revolution, as the largest enclosed docks in the world, to a re-emerging hub for enterprise and culture.
One of France’s most renowned street arts groups, Compagnie Carabosse, has delighted thousands of visitors across the world with installations that inspire awe and reverence. Rekindling was accompanied by a soundscape that captured the evolution of the Docks, inspired by oral histories collected from communities across Newham and live performance by local musicians.
Rekindling will take place one more time tonight (Friday, 26th September) and is free to attend. Royal Docks Originals runs until Saturday 4th October, all events are free to attend.
