Regent Street and St James’s reveal that their festive lights, ‘The Spirits of
Christmas’ will illuminate the skies from Thursday 9th November, marking the start of the 2023
festive season in central London.
London’s most recognisable festive light scheme is designed by leading British lighting creatives, James Glancy Design. The breathtaking canopy of glistening lights are made up of over 50 large scale ‘spirits’. The spirits will soar high above Regent Street, Regent Street St James’s, Piccadilly, Jermyn Street and St James’s Market.
For the first time this year, new lights will be in place to sparkle over additional locations across Regent Street and St James’s, including: Glasshouse Street, Heddon Street, Quadrant Arcade, St James’s Market and Swallow Street. The brand new illuminations, designed also by James Glancy, have been created to enhance the existing scheme, bringing festive decoration to more of central London than ever before. Further information and imagery to follow in due course.
Powered by green energy, the over 300,000 light scheme is made up of low-energy LED bulbs which operate on a timer, conserving energy during daylight hours and overnight.
Through the decades, Regent Street has long been famous for its spectacular festive lights display,
being the first ever central London destination to introduce festive lights and decoration for the
enjoyment of the public in 1954. The light schemes have evolved over the years with visitors travelling
from around the world to catch a glimpse of this iconic part of London during the holidays.
Whilst there won’t be a physical large-scale switch on event as in previous years, the lights will be on from the early evening. The renowned winter illuminations offer a free festive attraction for all to celebrate the holiday period.
Further information on festive activities on Regent Street and in St James’s to be announced in due
course.
