THE WINTER VILLAGE RETURNS TO BATTERSEA POWER STATION

Travel through the tunnel of stars, past the candy cane forest, until you reach the giant Nutcrackers guarding The Winter Village at Battersea Power Station this year. Take a selfie along the way by a larger-than-life bauble installation, wonder at the 30ft Christmas tree with over 19,000 LED lights, and delight in the variety of family-friendly attractions available at this year’s festive riverside event taking place between 2nd December – 3rd January.

With so many presents to deliver this Christmas, Santa Claus will be setting up an extra workshop at The Winter Village. Little ones who haven’t sent him their wish list yet, it’s not too late! Santa’s workshop will have a special post box for the North Pole so the big man himself can make sure he’s on top of his deliveries for the 24th!

Santa’s elves are also busy building some fun rides and games for visitors to enjoy including Youle Boules, Reindeer Toss and Feed the Snowman, perfect for those who like a little friendly competition, as well as a Toy Town Carousel and Vintage Ferris Wheel.

The Winter Village’s Craft Market stalls will have a great selection of gifts and crafts, including homeware, fashion accessories and more from local artisans, perfect for Christmas presents, plus food and drink pop-ups serving delicious treats.

For those who would like to spread some Christmas cheer, Battersea Power Station’s annual ‘Give a Book for Christmas’ appeal will also be returning. For the last three years, the appeal has been supported by the employees working at Battersea Power Station Development Company (BPSDC) and the contractors working on the regeneration project. By making this a public appeal, the hope is that more local school children in Battersea will go home with a present this Christmas. ‘Tis the season to indulge and the wonderful retailers and restaurants at Battersea Power Station will be offering Christmas menus throughout the festive period. With special dishes including Tandoori Spiced Venison and Garam Masala Christmas Pudding at Cinnamon Kitchen, Pumpkin and Truffle Tortelli followed by Cinnamon and Coffee Panna Cotta at Fiume and roast Norfolk turkey with all the trimmings at No. 29 Power Station, mouthwatering dining awaits.

Christmas wouldn’t be the same without settling down to enjoy some festive films and The Cinema in The Arches will have a line-up of classics that are sure to make you merry including A Christmas Carol and The Grinch. The Turbine Theatre will be bringing the acclaimed stage adaptation of Dr Seuss’s, The Cat in the Hat back from 13th – 23rd December, and virtual reality arcade, DNA VR, has some special Christmas themed games ideal for family outings (12 years and over).

The magical Nine Elms Advent Calendar is back for its third consecutive year, featuring 24 bespoke installations inspired by the theme of ‘Peace on Earth’. Paul Edmonds, White & Co., Moyses Stevens, DNA VR and The Turbine Theatre will each host an Advent Calendar Window. Battersea Power Station will also be presenting a window designed by local light artist, Andrew Gibson, and will be unveiling the festive installation on 2nd December, the same evening as the Power Station’s Christmas tree light switch-on. Sarah Banham, Head of Communities and Sustainability at Battersea Power Station Development Company, said:
“We’re looking forward to the return of The Winter Village back for its third year. With a great line-up of family-friendly attractions, gifts and crafts from local artisans in our Christmas market, festive treats from our great mix of riverside bars and retailers and the beautiful Power Station as a backdrop, it truly is a unique setting to spend quality time with family and friends.

“Supporting the local community has always been important to our shareholders and the Battersea Power Station team. Every year we support the ‘Give a Book for Christmas’ appeal and I’m delighted it’s making a big return this Christmas so that even more local children will go home with a present this festive season.”
