LABOUR chair Anneliese Dodds has blamed the Conservatives for public opposition to road charging schemes and claimed that the Government is imposing them on local authorities.
She told GB News: “We’re in the middle of a cost of living crisis right now and obviously the Conservative government said to different local areas, whether that’s London or other local authorities…that they needed to impose charging schemes.
“But frustratingly, particularly in the case of London, they’ve not listened to those calling for actual support to be provided to people, so obviously, Sadiq Khan has expanded the scrappage scheme.
“He’s done everything that he could to try and support people in this case.”
In a discussion during Breakfast with Eamonn Holmes and Isabel Webster, she continued: “Labour’s approach to these issues is very different to the Conservative approach.
“We think, for example, with our plans for energy that you need to be actually facing up to the cost of living crisis at the same time as putting those environmental measures in. That’s why we’ll be getting people’s bills down with our measures on renewables.
“We just wish that the Conservative government listened. London wasn’t provided with the support that was provided to Birmingham and really the Government should have listened on this.”
She added: “Labour’s frustration has been, in the middle of that Conservative cost of living crisis, they’ve not been backing areas like London…there should have been that backing from central government around this.”
