MOZ Hossain is taking on Assembly Member Susan Hall to run as the Conservative candidate in next year’s mayoral election.
A Tory mayoral hopeful has blasted Sadiq Khan’s record at City Hall, claiming the Labour Mayor has “let London down”.
Criminal barrister Moz Hossain KC joined Camilla Tominey on GB News to discuss his plan for taking on Khan next year.
Mr Hossain said: “A boy from a village in Bangladesh was provided with all the opportunities by London that allowed him to reach the top of the legal profession.
“Look at London now. It isn’t safe, it isn’t affordable and Mr Khan has let London down.
“You may think opportunities suffocate in a city that isn’t safe, that isn’t affordable. So, I want to give back to the city that has given me everything.”
Momentum has been building behind Hossain’s campaign after former Downing Street aide Daniel Korski withdrew from the race following groping allegations.
A number of big-hitting Tory donors have endorsed Mr Hossain’s bid, including property tycoon Nick Candy and telecoms billionaire Bassim Haidar.
Tory members have until July 18 to decide whether Hossain or Assembly Member Susan Hall will challenge Khan as the Conservative candidate in 2024.
Despite support from key donors, Mr Hossain struggled when asked simple yes or no questions.
The GB News host asked the criminal barrister about the Government’s Rwanda plan, net zero, gay marriage and if the United Kingdom should rejoin the European Union.
Camilla accused Mr Hossain of “prevaricating” and frequently had to chime in by reiterating the questions required “yes or no” answers.
