AN OPTICIANS in Stratford is helping to ensure children in the local community shine bright by donating high visibility vests.
Specsavers Stratford, which is locally owned and run, donated a total of 100 vests to Carpenters Primary School and Maryland Primary School to make sure children are clearly visible and can easily be spotted by motorists, when their activities take them out into the community.

‘We want to ensure that children in our community stay as safe as possible’, says ophthalmic director at Specsavers Stratford, Ami Kotak. ‘We know how important it is for children to stay active outdoors and travel to school safely, so we hope that the fluorescent vests will help the children to be clearly visible to all road users.

‘By giving the children these vests, we’re highlighting how crucial it is to stay bright and easy to spot, whether walking, cycling, or playing outside.’

Deputy headteacher at Carpenters Primary School, Bronwen Hook, adds: ‘We’re so grateful for the donation from the Specsavers team, as we often take children on trips in and around the town and it’s so important that they are easily recognisable and highly visible to staff as well as road users.’

Specsavers Stratford has also donated a free eye-test and glasses voucher to a raffle fundraiser at Maryland Primary School, supporting efforts to raise money for children in Jamaica affected by Hurricane Melissa.

Barbara Reynolds, Higher Level Teaching Assistant at Maryland Primary School, says: ‘We’d like to thank Specsavers Stratford for their generous donation of hi-vis vests for our pupils and the eye test voucher for our recent Hurricane Mellisa fundraiser. The hi-vis vests will help keep our children safe on trips and journeys to and from school, and the voucher has contributed to raising vital funds for such an important cause.’

All children under 16, as well as those under 19 in full- time education, are entitled to an NHS funded eye test. It is important to make sure that children have regular eye tests, and for more information or to book a sight test, call Specsavers Stratford on tel: 020 8221 1113
